Stress Management

Stress is caused by the body’s instinct to defend itself. This instinct is good in emergencies, but it can cause physical symptoms if it goes on for too long.  When this happens, your body is working overtime with no place to put all the extra energy. This can make you feel anxious, afraid, worried and uptight. Any sort of change can make you feel stressed, even good change.

Basic Steps to Stress Management:

Consciously recognize the stress symptoms you experience.

Mentally pinpoint the specific stressor(s).

Choose your basic strategy. Either:

o      Avoid it (if a positive outcome results)

o      Ignore it (mental blocking)

o      Eliminate it (total elimination is often impossible)

o      Adapt and cope with it.

Choose your specific strategy. Just as there are hundreds of stressors, there are hundreds of ways to manage them.
